Hi There,

New Immigration Act and Fees
The new Immigration ACT 2009 is now in force.
For many of you, there will be little or no difference as you continue through the Immigration process. The main changes were in the 'terminology' of the ACT. However, we are pleased to say that Immigration New Zealand have finally done away with the issuing of permits, therefore, you will now only ever receive a visa.
The other big change was to the fees charged by Immigration New Zealand. Please see the main changes to the new fee structure below:
- Expression of Interest was NZD$400 now NZD$440
- Residency Application Fee was NZD$1,400 now NZD$1,550
- Migrant Levy Fee Adult was NZD$300 now NZD$310
- Migrant Levy Fee Child was NZD$150 now NZD$155
- Family Residency was NZD$700 now NZD$790
- Work Visa was NZD$200 now NZD$230
If you have submitted an application to Immigration New Zealand prior to the 29th November 2010, then you will not be charged the new fee. The new fees only apply to applications submitted after the 29th November 2010.
Transferring Pensions to New Zealand - Pension Transfers
Moving to New Zealand? - Don't forget your toothbrush or your UK Pension
If you have a UK pension and you are emigrating to New Zealand you may not have considered the implication of leaving this valuable asset behind in the UK. In fact, it may prove extremely beneficial for you to transfer your pension to New Zealand as benefits can be accessed tax-free.
Leaving your pension intact in the UK could expose you to the following pitfalls: -
- Exposure to tax on benefits
- Exposure to currency risk on benefits payable
- No access to benefits before 55 (or even later for some UK schemes)
- Nil death benefits for your beneficiaries in some instances
Transferring your UK pension to New Zealand may result in you experiencing the following advantages: -
- Tax free benefits
- Currency control when benefits are transferred (you decide when to switch the funds to Kiwi dollars)
- Investment control - you decide which funds you invest in
- Early access to benefits - with 40% available after 5 years, with the remainder of the fund available at age 55
- 100% of fund paid to beneficiaries in the event of your death
Be sure to seek independent financial advice applicable to your individual circumstances, as transferring pensions is not for everyone. You should look to use a company that is authorised and knows the rules in both countries, to ensure you receive the best advice and service.
